Modest and Focused – A Space Honouring the Art of Baking
The MAYBELL bakery in Seoul is an institution. When Jung Woong was planning a new store, he wanted to create a space where he could bake bread for the rest of his life. The building and shop designed by U.lab is therefore fully focused on this purpose, and every detail – from room layout, colours and materials to the lighting concept – tells the story of bread baking.

The MAYBELL bakery in Seoul primarily sells rye breads, and a suitable retail space for this type of bread should be dark and modest rather than bright and sophisticated.

Für diese Bäckerei wurde ein rauer, rustikaler Look gewählt: An der Fassade wurden von Hand geformte und gebrannte Keramikfliesen verwendet, innen warmgewalzter Stahl. Die linke Außentür öffnet sich automatisch und lenkt Kunden an den Brotregalen vorbei zur Theke, hinter der sich der Backofen befindet, was eine behagliche Atmosphäre schafft.
