The iON EVO AS car tyre was developed to meet the requirements of all-season tyres for electric vehicles. In light of the fact that EVs are heavier than comparable combustion-engine models, the tyre’s development focused on wear reduction and stable handling. The tread depth was increased by 25 per cent, and the 3D sipes at the centre of the tread were reinforced. Because electric motors are quiet, rolling noise is of greater importance. A modified main groove and foam-filled cavities help to disperse sound and reduce noise. The jury was impressed by the technical problem-solving and the successful design of the tyre.
