Communication System
Teddy Buddy, a Friend of Long-Term Hospitalised Child Patients
Children who are hospitalised for cancer often suffer from loneliness. This project aims relieve stress by connecting healthy children with their peers in the hospital. Children under 14 can sign up for the programme via their guardians or their own smartphones. An associated app collects information about hobbies to match friends with similar interests. The core element of the design is a teddy bear which enables the exchange of voice messages via pushing a heart-shaped button. Introducing a cuddly medium, the digital system simultaneously serves the little patients’ need for communication and for a cuddly companion right next to them.
