Move It!
“Smart technology and VR are coming to play an increasingly important role in our lives, and with it the need for the precise digitalisation of human movements. That’s where mocopi comes in. Not only does it deliver excellent motion capture results; it does so in a very clever way,” said the jury members who were inspired by this futuristic yet fun mobile motion capture system. The product was developed with virtual YouTubers in mind as potential users, that is, people who are tech-savvy but prefer to concentrate on the creative part of their video productions. However, mocopi can also be an effective and intuitive tool for professional filmmakers. Only a smartphone is needed to use the motion capture system, which provides precise instructions on the correct positioning of the sensors via Bluetooth pairing. The colour coding is easy to understand, with each colour assigned to one body part for sensor attachment, so as to ensure comprehensive motion capture. There are also videos and virtual assistants providing a detailed explanation of the initial setup. Magnets keep the sensors securely locked into place on the head, arms, waist and ankles so that the creator can focus on their production. Beyond its purely practical aspect, the colour coding that is also used in marketing communications, from the packaging to the user interface, also serves an aesthetic purpose. The designers wanted mocopi to convey a fun and casual user experience and be a product that anyone can use anywhere in order to experiment and work with motion capture. The jury appreciated this message and the confidence-inspiring look of the product: “It has warm and vibrant colours that evoke positive emotions when worn and make the user appear to be part of the whole and not just a data collection test subject. The colour coding helps the user to navigate the application and at the same time makes it fun to engage with this innovation.” It takes the user one step closer to virtual reality with high-precision motion measurement and real-time motion input, yet it does so in a natural and uncomplicated way – move it!
