HSV Heldenplakate HSV Football Star Posters
The Hamburger Sport-Verein (HSV) celebrated its 125th jubilee in 2012. To commemorate the occasion, a series of posters were developed as part of a premium package for use at events associated with the jubilee, showing a selection of key football icons from the long history of the club. The series represents a distinctively visual-ised chronicle that focuses on five football legends who have played important roles in shaping the club’s successful history. The various decades are marked stylistically by quoting the respective graphic design style typical of that time. The English player Kevin Keegan, here the “pop star”, played for the HSV at the end of the 1970s, the heyday of glam rock and disco music. The kind of illustration as well as the specific headings “Legende” (Uwe Seeler), “Kaiser” (Franz Beckenbauer) or “Champion” (Felix Magath) thus characterise both these legendary figures and the quoted epoch of their active time.
Statement by the jury
»The series of posters on legends presents the key football stars of the HSV from various eras in the club’s history by quoting the respective historic design styles. The idea of linking the football players to the aesthetics of their time and characterise the players by adding specific titles is outstanding. The club thus draws attention to its own history and presents itself with these rather unusual posters as a creative and contemporary football club.«
