Fathers Wine, a small winery in Ukraine, is a true family business, now run by the four children of the original founder. Its core values are simplicity, sincerity and family – as well as the goal of creating a good basic wine for every day. In order to create a packaging design for the new wine series of this brand that does not aim for the special and fancy, but focuses on the value of the family, a colourful label with a coat of arms generator was developed. Therefore, for the graphic design, a system of simple geometric shapes inspired by traditional Ukrainian symbols was first created, with a colour scheme in subtle shades of red, yellow and green. For the back of the bottle, a field in the shape of a heraldic coat of arms was designed and left blank, so that it serves as a canvas that can be covered with the stickers included in the packaging. The aim is to bring families as the target group together in an engaging way by inviting them to each playfully design their own family crest – with the result that 70,000 shared media impressions were generated on social media after the launch.

Statement by the Jury

The new packaging design for Fathers Wine stands out above all because it interacts with the buyers. This is a novel approach that is not only cleverly implemented, but also one that congenially conveys the message of the family business, namely to experience joy and a strong sense of togetherness when enjoying a good wine. The idea of an individual coat of arms is appealing, implemented in beautiful colours typical of the country and overall attention-grabbing.
