Lahti in Finland, a town known for both cross-country skiing and climate action, was named the European Green Capital 2021. In order to promote their work on saving Nordic winters, the city officials launched an urban ski-sharing programme, set up as an outdoor experience and an actual mobility service. Ski-sharing points constructed from sustainable local wood were stocked with second-hand skis in locations across town. The system was free of charge, based on trust that people would return the equipment after use.
