The BMW 2 Series Coupe is conceived as a homage to the BMW 2002, which is achieved in particular by the posterior wrap-around design. The distinctive rear emphasises the width of the BMW 2 Series Coupe through its strict horizontal alignment; a spoiler lip at the boot lid emphasises the athletic character. Due to the optical interaction between tailpipes and the confined lower rear end, the car seems to lie lower on the road. The roofline follows on into the boot lid and characterises the dynamic silhouette.
