YNF-01
The YNF-01 (‘Yamaha Next Field’) concept represents a new take on mobility vehicles for greater accessibility and universal design. The design team felt that the YNF-01 – and by extension other vehicles in this field – must boost the motivation of the user by being intuitive and enjoyable to use.
While mobility options for seniors or persons with disabilities are not uncommon, they are not expressly meant to deal with terrain variations such as street curbs, rocks and pebbles, and other impediments. YNF-01 was designed by envisioning all pathways as being ‘off-road’, and accordingly, uses a four-wheel independent suspension, large tires, wrap-around bucket seat, and styling and colours to inspire a ‘go-anywhere’ spirit in whoever rides it.
The ATV-like handlebars put users in the mood to go somewhere new, while the ample suspension and big wheels devour changes in the terrain. These features provide users with the means to explore campgrounds, go over roadside curbs, or even venture onto the beach. YNF-01’s active, outdoor-ready appearance helps eliminate much of the stigma and unpleasant stares associated with mobility scooters. It hopes to make people with movement impairments indistinguishable from those without.
