Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 – the jury continues to grow
Flytram
FLYTRAM, an alternative urban mobility network system, integrates tram-train and ropeway technologies to connect urban and suburban areas efficiently. This hybrid vehicle minimises transfers and costs, enhancing the competitiveness of urban traffic systems. The passenger cabin can be connected to an autonomous rail bogie or a ropeway gondola arm, allowing for seamless transitions between different modes of transport.
The system includes an interchange station that rapidly transfers cabins between ropeways and rail bogies using automated processes. This seamless transfer reduces inconvenience and extends networks to less accessible areas. The design avoids the traditional train and tram aesthetics, favouring a sleek, consumer electronics-inspired look. The cabins are harmonious in both modes, seamlessly integrating with the autonomous bogie, which houses self-driving sensors. Side displays indicate cabin occupancy, offering real-time information to passengers.
The interior, designed for symmetry and accessibility, accommodates 36 passengers (16 seated, 20 standing) and includes spaces for wheelchairs or prams. Barrier-free central areas and informative displays enhance the passenger experience and provide advertising opportunities. The thoughtful design of FLYTRAM ensures a comfortable and efficient travel experience, addressing urban mobility challenges effectively. Its innovative approach offers a practical solution for improving urban traffic flow and connectivity.
