Do It Yourself
The DIY trend continues unabated. While the term was initially associated with self-assembly strategies related to protest and counterculture movements, it is today applied much more generally to creative work at home. The cutting and engraving machine xTool P2 takes DIY to a new level. It can be used to work on a wide range of different materials from wood to metal, plastic, glass, leather and fabrics. It is even capable of cutting through 20 mm thick acrylic in a single pass thanks to its powerful, 55-watt CO₂ laser. The fully enclosed design of the device underscores its compact nature and simultaneously protects users from the risk of laser beams, or smoke and fumes. The laser machine is equipped with two HD cameras to ensure high-accuracy image positioning during processing. In this way, even the smallest of objects such as jewellery pendants can be given the desired design with great precision. One of the highlights of the product is the newly developed CurveAce function. It automatically generates 3D models of any object and makes it possible to engrave curved surfaces. In addition, the AutoPassthrough technology means the xTool P2 can easily engrave or cut materials up to 300 cm in length. Compared to professional construction software, the associated software not only provides a wide range of functions but is also closely modelled on user behaviour. Operation is therefore extremely simple and requires no prior design experience. With its plug-and-play ability, the device is able to circumvent most of the conventional calibration steps that are needed for comparable industrial machines. The product thus gives DIY enthusiasts greater freedom when realising their ideas while also meeting the requirements of professional users in small creative studios. “The xTool P2 laser cutter comes with numerous engraving and cutting functions that are generally only found on industrial machines,” the jury said. “By combining advanced technology with high user-friendliness, the product sets new standards for professionals and hobbyists alike. At the same time, the design makes it so safe and compact that it is easy to use at home – even on the kitchen table.”
