Lotus – Next Generation Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Approximately 12% of births worldwide are premature, with the long-term effects of poor neonatal care contributing to life-long disabilities. Current patient care delivery is challenging due to fragmented data from disparate systems overwhelming clinicians and preventing them from seeing a full patient overview. Complex clinical jargon and processes create a barrier for families to understand and participate in the care of their baby. Furthermore, premature babies are fragile and need the right environment and care delivery to grow and thrive.
The developmental care model, as supported by the Lotus solution, has the ability to protect the infant and family’s physiological, psychological and emotional vulnerabilities, thereby improving long-term outcomes and mitigating chronic health problems. A sensing camera enables monitoring of the baby without attaching painful sensors to their fragile skin. The camera monitors vitals, sleep-wake cycle, pain, positioning, light exposure and other environmental conditions.
The AI-powered clinical informatics platform gathers data from across hospital devices and systems, and aggregates it into an easily understandable format tailored to each user. The algorithm communicates the status of the baby via the iconic 360-degree view and highlights areas of concern so clinicians can take preemptive action. The interface has a parental portal that tailors data to be easily comprehensible and relevant to the family, so they can monitor their baby's progress and participate in care delivery.
