“Free your mind” is the slogan for the Libera lighting system – while the next line of lyrics from the En Vogue song immediately rises from the depths of memory: “And the rest will follow”. This alone already sums up what sets Libera apart: The system was developed out of a need to break not only with product design stereotypes, but also with traditional lighting schemes, which are often only optimised for one specific type of room. And indeed, the result of this liberated creative process seems only logical. Libera is a modular lighting system that differs from familiar solutions in many details. With the light rod, the brass joint and the base, the system integrates three compositional elements that work together to form an organic whole. The light rods with miniaturised Optidiamond technology for high visual comfort and high light output are narrow and have a slightly conical geometric shape. A central design element of Libera is the brass joint. From an aesthetic point of view, it is a tribute to the beauty of the material and its way of reflecting light. From a functional point of view, the fact that it can be rotated 360 degrees in all three planes offers great scope for designing the light graphics. Libera can therefore form complex systems or be an isolated light sign. The composition can either be neutral and blend discreetly into the space or be dominant and create light graphics of great presence. The jury was enthusiastic: “Libera is an open system that opens up the greatest possible compositional freedom precisely through its minimalism, rigour of form and clarity. With its combination of miniaturised optics, intelligent technologies, high-quality materials and ingenious connections, it virtually invites creative lighting design. Whether vertical, horizontal or on different levels – there are virtually no limits to the possibilities for illuminating a room in a functional yet playful way and giving it an individual character.” The system thus lives up to its name “Libera”.
