Italia – The Airship Crash Chronicle

This multimedia web special chronicles the Arctic expedition of the airship Italia – commanded by Italian engineer and General Umberto Nobile – that crashed during the return flight from the North Pole in 1928 and also describes its international rescue operation. Using a 3D model of the airship, interactive infographics, maps and 3D-animated scenes to illustrate the story, it details the numerous rescue efforts and puts them all on one map – documenting an outstanding international cooperation for the time. Also, the process of creating this longread featuring a dramatic text filled with all kinds of multimedia elements was no less international.
