This book project deals with meaning of the terms “Sangu” and “Liopo”, which have a negative connotation in China today. Originally, however, they were neutral terms for women’s occupations, such as nun, herbalist or procuress. In order to fill the subject with life, the editorial concept makes use of numerous illustrations. Nine female characters with meaningful attributes are introduced to represent the female occupations. These drawings, somewhat bizarre but endearing, provide orientation while reading. In addition, detailed street scenes invite readers to compare the living conditions of the past with those of today.
