Double Shift

뒤로 다운로드

The website double-shift.org is a multimedia documentary on public schooling for Syrian refugee children in Jordan. It has been created to inform a general worldwide audience about this topic in an easily accessible, multilayered, engaging and visual manner. The website merges science and design, hard facts and emotional impact. It starts with a moving macro-view image showing the densely populated capital Amman against a bright blue sky. The pictures then zoom ever deeper into microsituations on the ground of public schooling, leading all the way to the individual students of the double-shift school Al-Arqam, including the students’ hopes and dreams. The reduced design and light basic colour scheme of the website is a direct reference to the sandstone buildings, while the golden graphics and lettering elements aim to reflect both the ambition and the significance of this project. This website has emerged as an interdisciplinary research project, in which two young designers teamed up with economists working together at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), to develop innovative concepts for research on the transformation and visualisation of social interrelations.

심사평

The web documentary “Double Shift” excels to astonishing effect in attracting attention by zooming from the big picture to the details of the micro-level, breaking down the information into ever more concise steps. Skilfully combining the different media, videos and photographs into a reduced and clear design, the website promotes this socially relevant research project in the form of a high-profile public platform.
