The Burel Onda movable sound-absorbing screen uses a traditional raw material worked with local craftsmanship to create quiet zones. Burel is a fabric woven from the wool of sheep from Portugal’s Serra da Estrela region. The material, typical of this region, has good sound-absorbing properties – 95 per cent of sound is absorbed by the fabric. “The wave shape of the partition, for which the name ‘Onda’ stands, enhances sound absorption while also providing stability,” the jury pointed out. When disassembled, the partition can be transported and stored in compact form. At the end of the product cycle, the material used is suitable for recycling.
