The kitchen is always the best place to be at any party, as the saying goes. Today, one might even assert that much of our life revolves around the kitchen. Architects focus on it as the central living space, opting for generously dimensioned and, more importantly, open-plan designs. This has resulted in new requirements related to kitchen appliances and kitchen sinks, as well as in more discerning preferences. Blaupunkt’s Maira range fulfils these requirements in every respect. The principle of “form follows function” has obviously played a very important role here. The jury was impressed by the powerful linear design statement: “The Maira kitchen sink range is perfectly reduced to its function. And the material is simply fantastic.” The sink is made of quartz composite, which consists of 80 per cent natural quartz sand – the hardest component of granite – and 20 per cent acrylic resin. It is both impressively versatile and incredibly robust. The material’s hardness makes it strongly resistant against scratches, knocks and abrasion, which is definitely an advantage when handling pots and pans. Another feature that the jury particularly liked, in addition to resistance against bacteria, mould and odours, is the heat-proof and easy-to-clean surface. Functional aspects aside, the composite feels good too, and this was a decisive factor in the Blaupunkt designers’ choice of material. They see it as an important and holistic facet of a positive product experience that conveys comfort, safety and aesthetics in a tactile way. The designers’ remarkable attention to detail is also evident in elements such as the flush-fitting drain outlet. With their clear lines and distinctive contours, the Maira sinks are attractive eye-catchers in contemporary kitchen environments and represent a harmonious addition to the manufacturer’s range.
