“Beloved and Rejected” paints a comprehensive panorama of the post-war Federal Republic of Germany and its cinema, which was varied and lively, and quite different from popular opinion. The 270illustration book uses typesets of the time: Palatino nova by H. Zapf, a revised version of the 1950s Palatino and Neue Haas Grotesk (the Helvetica archetype). Colours and gradients used for the beginning of the texts are derived from the pages with quotations – a subtle nod to the 1950s dressed in today’s design.
