Typical features of sports cars generally include a favourable power-to-weight ratio, very high-performance brake systems and a stiff chassis, complemented by an overall look that visualises these features. Against this backdrop, the Audi R8 is a sports car that introduces a new aesthetics in its vehicle category. It showcases a design of perfect proportions that passes on unnecessary playful details. Thanks to aluminium space frame construction, the body of the R8 weighs only 210 kilogrammes, making this sports car extraordinarily light. The body of the R8 V10 plus features numerous add-on parts made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP), a material that also is elegantly used in the interior of these models. Both the exterior and interior design of the R8 underwent an overall refinement to enhance its distinctive character even further. The familiar LED headlights were newly structured, and a hexagonal single-frame grille as well as large, round tailpipe trims have been added as the most obvious elements among the exterior features. In addition, the rear lights that are now standard on all Audi R8 models include innovative dynamic turn signals, which add an interactive quality: generated by LEDs, the light runs from the inside out in the direction in which the driver wants to turn. The Audi R8 defines an entirely new type of sports car – exuding sophistication, also in terms of driving characteristics. It was designed to an extraordinarily high level and looks very refined. Its proportions are very harmonious, it is perfectly balanced, and its aesthetics are high class. The way the motor presents itself in the back of the car makes the Audi R8 a highly honest sports car.
