Anaptár, Intersection of Art and Science
The aim of “Anaptár” has been to, first, explore and implement in a visually easy-to-understand manner the scientific and artistic relationships concerning antecedents of radial calendars from a scientific and art-history perspective, and second, to examine whether the motion of the moon had been depicted in a similar way in the past. Starting off with extensive historical and scientific research, the information obtained was processed in an interdisciplinary approach and the plethora of data then presented following a specially developed presentation method. The abundance of enticing historical illustrations from physics, art and astronomy, as well as the creative visualisation of the immense amount of pure numbers, makes for an engaging, detailed and lovingly designed read. The hand-manufactured cover pays homage to women from the early days of astronomy, especially Cecilia Payne.
심사평
The quality of this publication, which extends across all areas of the design, is downright outstanding. From the first impression created by the threads, which are integrated radially into the cover, to the rhythm of the illustrations and the use of typography, this work is an excellent showcase in a truly literal sense of how good design can make even academic art-historical content stimulating to read.
