Red Dot Design Week 2022: Red Dot Jury

“In search of good design and innovation” - that is the guiding principle for the Red Dot jury. It has determined the best product designs of the year. The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design set new standards in the design industry with their submissions. Among the successful companies are well-known big brands as well as newcomers who are in no way inferior to the big players.

Hybrid Judging Process

“You can't get an award in the Red Dot Design Award through an evaluation that is made solely on the basis of photos. Our standard is higher,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot. For this reason, the registered products were on site in the Red Dot Judging Hall in the original and the evaluation process took place hybrid: The submissions were presented to the jury in video calls. During the calls, the experts were able to have everything demonstrated and explained to them on the product. The professional discussions among each other were not neglected either.

Mülheim/Essen Airport was available for the evaluation of the cars and motorbikes. Two of the jurors were also able to be on site: Lutz Fügener, Professor of Engineering Design and Mobility and Vincent Créance, Head of “The Design Spot” at the Université Paris-Saclay, drove and assessed the vehicles. For the final assessment, a live call to Japan was initiated with jury colleague Ken Okuyama.

The Red Dot Jury 2022

This year's Red Dot Jury has 48 members. They come from 23 nations. All of them are united by their design expertise, which they have built up during their careers as professors, consultants, industrial designers or journalists.
