Concentrated creativity: yearbook eternalises award-winning communication design
Once a year, 24 experts select communication design of convincing quality to be awarded with the Red Dot. Design professionals and anyone interested can discover all works which enthused the jury for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 in the International Yearbook Communication Design 2018/2019. Edited by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, it is published in the Red Dot Edition, staging the most important trends of a versatile industry.
Design concepts, products or communications works – the yearbooks of the Red Dot Award rank among the international standard works for prize-winning and outstanding design. On around 1,200 pages, the latest Red Dot yearbook documents the benchmarks of the international communication design industry. The creations provide an in-depth overview of the current approaches in advertising, marketing and corporate communications and illustrate how to communicate creatively today. The projects in this two-volume compendium, which is published in English language, originate from designers, agencies and companies from all corners of the globe.
Broad range of prize-winning creative works
Rich of fascinating images, the first volume includes works from the fields of corporate and brand design, packaging, advertising and annual reports. Projects from publishing and print media, posters, typography, illustrations and spatial communication complete the overview in this book, which is dedicated to the more classic works in communication design.
The second volume comprises mostly Red Dot awarded creations from the digital and multimedia field, which are also presented individually and in words and pictures. Besides fair stands and retail design, readers can discover excellent online projects, films, animations, sound designs, apps as well as interface and user experience designs.
Spotlight on creative minds
Moreover, the yearbook looks behind the curtain: with portraits and short interviews, it introduces the makers behind the inspiring projects which the jury awarded with the highest distinctions “Red Dot: Best of the Best” and “Red Dot: Grand Prix”. In addition, it shows the 24 members of the expert panel as well as the agency and brand of the year.
Also the Red Dot: Brand of the Year 2018, Hyundai Motor Company, grants an insight into its communications strategy in a multi-page article. Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, talks among others about the car manufacturer’s marketing strategy, collaborating with external creative partners and his vision for the future corporate communications.
Besides works of established designers, the International Yearbook Communication Design 2018/2019 also shows the prize-winning works of up-and-coming young designers, which participate likewise successfully in the Red Dot Award. A special focus is on the creation of Tom Hegen, who won the Red Dot: Junior Prize 2018 and a prize money of 10,000 Euros with his coffee table book “HABITAT – Vom Mensch geprägte Lebensräume” (“HABITAT – human altered landscapes”).
