Annual Reports – or the design of a business year

The works which received a prize in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 prove that an annual report must not be boring. As an instrument of self-expression, company reports fit in seamlessly with the corporate design and convince readers with facts and figures that are edited and visualised appropriate for the target group.

BMW takes stock
In 2017, BMW was awarded with the Red Dot for several products. Besides the BMW Iconic Umbrella and the Paralympic Racing Wheelchair, the motorbike “R nineT Racer” and the BMW 5 Series Limousine were granted prizes, too. The company does not only focus on the quality of its products but also on the communication’s quality. This becomes apparent, among others, in the BMW Group Annual Report 2016 which hw.design from Munich created for the Bavarian corporation.

With its annual report “Eine neue Ära” (A New Era), the BMW Group aims to ring in a new age of individual mobility. In addition to the dynamic imagery, a new typography concept is used. The signet “The Next 100 Years”, which was developed in 2016 for the 100th anniversary, was again incorporated in the layout and defined further. Large index tabs serve as a table of contents and offer a quick introduction to the various subjects. In addition to four “Vision Next 100” models, the magazine section presents the new BMW 5 Series in an emotive way.

adidas: reaching success together
“Calling All Creators” is both an appeal and the motto of the adidas 2016 Annual Report. Employees, partners, communities and consumers contribute to the development of new concepts and products by being creators themselves. Therefore, the annual report was published in a comprehensive as well as a condensed version and supplemented by a magazine. With the help of its striking design, strong images and texts, the magazine makes the company strategy tangible and accessible. The publication which was designed by STRICHPUNKT DESIGN is exquisitely crafted and, with its diverse materials and slanting cut, achieves a dynamic look.

TUI Group publishes annual report online
Companies do no longer publish their annual reports in a printed version only, but rather provide them in a digital form by now. TUI Group meets its own requirement – “Delivering” –  with the Online Annual Report 2015/2016. The accompanying website of the tourism company invites visitors to immerse in an underwater landscape and at the same time in the world of the company. The clearly structured website provides a quick overview of the various subject areas in the form of teasers hinting at the specific content.

Featuring interviews, articles, infographics and short texts, the microsite delivers a multifaceted picture of the company group. The site’s aesthetic appearance is marked by high-quality photos, illustrations and easy-to-grasp pictograms. Likewise, animations and infographics complement the individual contents. The new sustainability section provides comprehensive information on how the company pursues its corporate social responsibility. Moreover, TUI’s financial reporting, which was awarded with the Red Dot: Best of the Best, is also made available in an extensive download area. With its stringent design concept and cleverly designed interactive elements, the online annual report, designed by Mainz-based agency 3st kommunikation, enthused the Red Dot Jury.
