Targeting flax waste in the sesame oil industry, a new material is developed via unconventional means to enrich the value of flax waste. The goal is to successfully create sustainable material out of flax waste residue. By reshaping the value of flax, traditional food providers can reposition their business into manufacturing that would boost the value of waste, revive traditional industry and improve people’s lives. During the manufacturing process, flax waste is glued together and compression moulded into a sustainable material. Typically, flax waste is simply gardening fertiliser but tests conducted by the designers have proven that it provides incredible stability and unique pattern when fermented into lacasse. It is environmentally friendly to ferment flax waste into laccase, using its natural characteristics to achieve an organic fading pattern that shows the vitality of the material.
