On 27 November Professor Dr. Peter Zec participated in the Seoul Design International Forum (SDIF) that celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The DDP is a landmark of Seoul’s global design city and is the work of architect Zaha Hadid. Under the theme “Designing the City of the Future” the forum explored the evolving design policies of Seoul, the global capabilities of designers and the power of attractive urban design to improve quality of life for all citizens. The event highlighted both the opportunities and challenges faced by modern urban centres, with the city of Seoul in its focus.
The exchange between Red Dot and the Taiwanese design scene
“Taiwanese products are characterised by extraordinary creativity and high quality,” says Zec. “Meeting talented designers and leading brands in person here in Taiwan is a valuable experience for us, one that is enriching not only on a professional level but also on a human level.” The meeting provided a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond between Red Dot and Taiwanese designers and to further promote the creative potential of both sides.
Outstanding Taiwanese products in the Red Dot Design Award 2024
In 2024, Taiwanese manufacturers made a particularly strong impression in the fields of computer and information technology, TV and home entertainment, bathroom fittings, and audio and communication technology. These remarkable submissions set new standards and combined aesthetic beauty with technical sophistication.
Taiwan in computer and information technology
This year, special mention was given to the designs of ASUS and GIGABYTE. ASUS impressed with its Zenbook series, whose elegant, slim design and powerful hardware thrilled the jury. GIGABYTE stood out with its AORUS gaming brand, whose products convince with outstanding workmanship and innovative technology. In the computer and information technology category, 90 Red Dot distinctions went to Taiwanese manufacturers alone, which underscores Taiwan's leading role in this sector.
Innovation and sustainability in other design areas
Not only in technology, but also in other areas, Taiwanese products showed their creative excellence. The “Artificer” bathroom fitting by GLOBE UNION INDUSTRIAL impresses with its minimalist design and high functionality. The Acer Vero PL3510ATV also received an award for its environmentally conscious design and sustainable materials. These products prove that Taiwan is setting new standards not only in technology, but also in the design of everyday products.
Red Dot and Taiwan: a long-standing partnership
The dinner in Taipei was an important step in further strengthening the close partnership between Red Dot and the Taiwanese design scene. The aim is to expand the cooperation even further and to jointly develop innovative design solutions that will have a lasting impact on the design world. Taiwan will remain an important driving force in global design in 2024.
