The Clouds Rest Wall

The Clouds Rest Wall revitalises an abandoned public wall, leaving a lasting impression on passersby. Using 5,000 aluminium units called Cloud Seeds, it projects ever-changing skyscapes reminiscent of clouds draped over a mountain. When viewed from a distance, each unit has a distinct memory of the sky’s transformation, resulting in a unified skyscape. The cross-sectional shape of the Cloud Seeds, made of lightweight aluminium, ensures structural integrity, public safety, and ease of operation. Steel frames secure the modules, while threaded rods and L-shaped angles provide robust support. The fabrication process, which includes 3D printing and CNC machines, reduces errors and enables efficient pre-assembly. The PVDF coating adds durability and a wide range of colours to each module. The Clouds Rest Wall encourages engagement and ownership by incorporating citizen-contributed sky photos. Visitors can interact with the Cloud Seeds, which vividly depict the sky in various colours. Each side of the Cloud Seeds features a different colour converted into 8 Pantone shades, accompanied by meaningful inscriptions. The Cloud Seeds’ pinwheel-like shape allows them to continuously rotate, generating captivating sky images propelled by wind or passersby, creating a mesmerising visual spectacle.
