The 5,700 Euro Phone. Germany’s Most Unfair Offer
Trapped in unfair contracts, people in Germany pay hundreds of millions too much for their mobile phones. The telecommunications service provider O2 raised awareness for the problem while promoting its own offers. The fictional character Ernst is the face of the campaign. He has been paying back his Nokia8110 since 1996 and is now offering it in a classified ad for 5,700 euros, the amount he overpaid during the past 25 years. The campaign proved to be hugely successful on social media and led to a discussion about unconscionable mobile phone plans.
