Until now, speed pedelecs have been able to offer mainly an environmentally friendly alternative to the car on medium-length commutes. The Stromer ST7 S-pedelec, on the other hand, is designed as an interesting mobility solution for sporty long-distance commuters: A 1,440 Wh battery provides a range of up to 260 km and with the electric Pinion Smart.Shift, a gearbox originating from the automotive industry has been installed for the first time. It combines reliable gear-shifting technology with the advantages of electric shifting and is durable and low-maintenance thanks to the robust carbon belt. Shifting is quick and intuitive at the touch of a button. A new rear-wheel motor (940 watts/52 Nm) with sport mode, ABS seamlessly integrated into the frame design and a high-quality lighting system with daytime running light, high beam and brake lights round off the technical equipment of the premium speed pedelec and increase safety. The greatest design challenge in the development process of the ST7 was to integrate the new, larger battery into the frame design while maintaining the brand’s typical design language with its clear lines. This was achieved by integrating the battery into a more voluminous down tube. A nice detail is the newly developed “bottle opener” that is operated to open the battery compartment. The jury was impressed by the “strong personality” of the ST7, whose striking, powerful yet elegant appearance has a high recognition value. However, in particular, they were enthusiastic about the riding experience on the ST7: “The heavy S-pedelec conveys an incredible lightness when riding,” said the jury. “Handling, ergonomics, the stiffness of the frame and equipment – everything is just right and at motorbike level, which makes the ST7 feel safe, reliable and easy to control even at high speed.” This remarkable riding stability was achieved by the angular tubes that lend the hydroformed frame its high stiffness. The balanced weight distribution of the battery and rear wheel motor within the frame design also contributes to the riding stability, so that the ST7 is convincing also on long-distance rides.
