RYTM.record
Music has been a potent tool across millennia, conveying narratives and emotions, and fostering connections. Historically, music listening endures as a ritual; it is now interwoven with daily life through digital platforms like Spotify, podcasts, and TikTok. Amidst this digital bombardment, there is a risk of desensitisation to music’s essence, and yet, music retains its potency through ritual.
In this digital era, elevating this ritual is crucial. Physical music mediums, such as records and record players, enrich our engagement. RYTM emerged from the desire to create the perfect tool for this ritual, aiming to deepen the music connection through quality design and an immersive experience without detracting from the music.
Design iterations of RYTM revealed insights from architecture, managing dynamics between users and space, and enhancing the interaction between music and listener through rhythm. RYTM’s continuous aluminium body, contrasted by rhythmic vertical slats, seamlessly integrates the tonearm. User controls — power, speed, pitch — are nestled within spaces between slats. The platter bridges these realms, elevating the record for play. The interface invites satisfaction; the concealed tonearm surprises by emerging upon activation, inviting the commencement of the music ritual and fostering anticipation through quality interactions.
