Quantum Key Distribution System

Quantum Key Distribution System was developed based on NEC’s years of research in quantum cryptography technology. While designing the appearance of the device for this system, the design team tried to shape the concept of technology and the value it brings to society. Daily lives today rely on a wide range of services that depend on safe and secure data distribution. However, quantum computers will be able to instantly break current data encryption. They would deprive people of hope for next-generation services that require greater and faster data distribution, and increase the likelihood of a data breach, endangering confidential data that is believed to be safely protected. Quantum cryptography is a technology necessary to protect against such future threats. This new technology is theoretically unbreakable, even by future computing technology such as quantum computers. It is a next-generation security device that is indispensable to the development of the most secure quantum cryptography technology. Quantum Key Distribution System is a system that transmits and receives photons that work as encryption keys over optical fibres. Photons act differently when they are observed. This technology makes use of this extremely sensitive nature to reliably detect third-party interferences. Sensitivity is the key to strong security. This inspired us to create a design that conveys a sensitive image, in contrast to existing designs that emphasise the strength of security devices. Visually, the front of the device has a thin groove that resembles a path of photon, expressing a sense of refinement and intensity.
