Naomi cracks nuts by means of a helical spring with a striker attached inside: The nut is placed in the stainless steel bowl of the nutcracker, and the spring body placed over it. The spring is fixed at the table top with two fingers aside, and the ball on the end of the spring is pulled upwards. When it is released, the striker shoots down and cracks the nut. At the same time the spiral spring closes to prevent shell pieces from flying around.
