“La valeur du design”: exhibition of Red Dot winners in France
Only until 8 January 2017, the exhibition “La valeur du design” (“The value of design”) will be on show in the French city of Saint Etienne. Already since the middle of September 2016, a selection of Red Dot awarded products from France and around the world is on show at the Cité du Design. It inform visitors about the merits and value of good design and demonstrates that the term “design” goes way beyond the surface.
The 120 objects comprising collection includes products from various fields of everyday life, such as tools, home appliances, furniture and consumer electronics. They were granted a distinction in the Red Dot Award for their good design quality. The presentation grants insights into the design value and is divided into six categories: ergonomics, life science, modern life, personal mobility, intelligent materials and technologies.
The exhibition “La valeur du design” refers to the business site of the design term: Successful design is not a question of beauty, but one of sales. This is why the focus of the exhibition is on human-centred innovations which are particularly well-made in terms of their use. The collection documents that companies which invest in innovative and well-designed products develop better in comparison with their competitors who place less or no value on design.
