A piece of award’s history: International Yearbook Brands & Communication Design 2019/2020
The International Yearbook Brands & Communication Design 2019/2020, released on 14 November 2019 in the Red Dot Edition, provides a well-founded overview of the state of the art of brand and communication design in two volumes. The yearbook is published by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award and is regarded as the international standard work for award-winning design. On the approximately 1,200 pages of the yearbook, design enthusiasts, companies and design studios can find out which projects and brands received a prize for their design quality by the 24-member jury of the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication 2019.
Best performances at a glance
The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design regularly prove that strong companies rely on innovative products. But nowadays, companies have to offer more than that. In order to build long-term economic success, it takes a unique and unmistakable brand that stands for a promise. Red Dot has responded to this development in the market by giving brands more room in the competition for communication design. Since this year, this has also been reflected in the name, because the Red Dot Award: Communication Design has become the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design.
Accordingly, the International Yearbook Brands & Communication Design 2019/2020 focuses on both award-winning communication design and outstanding brands. These include big names such as Philips, Panasonic, LG and Grohe, who have already convinced the Red Dot Jury with their products. In addition, it presents all communication design works in pictures and words and informs readers about the clients and designers.
In the first volume of the yearbook, all award-winning brands are presented. Among them are also the brands with the "Red Dot: Brand of the Year" award, the highest distinction in the "Brands" section. They are presented on several pages with strong words and images. This year, Grohe, Deutsche Telekom and HappyGoal were delighted to receive this award. In addition, readers can find out which projects in the fields of corporate and brand design, advertising, packaging, exhibition stands and retail design were awarded by the jury. The second volume mainly contains winning works from the digital and multimedia sectors.
A look behind the scenes
The yearbook does not only show all of the award-winning brands and projects, but also provides a glimpse behind the scenes of the competition and the participating companies. The 24 members of the panel of experts, which evaluated the submitted works in an intensive process, are presented in detail in form of interviews and pictures. The designers behind the submissions that the jury honoured with the top prizes "Red Dot: Best of the Best" and "Red Dot: Grand Prix", will also be presented through interviews.
The yearbook dedicates several pages to this year's Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2019, KW43 Branddesign by Grey Germany from Düsseldorf, with interviews, background information and pictures. Both the great design achievements, which the agency has shown over many years, and the creative people behind them are presented.
The International Yearbook Brands & Communication Design 2019/2020 does not only show projects of established designers but also the award-winning works of up-and-coming young designers, who equally successfully participated in the Red Dot Award. A special particular focus is on the work of Edward Lau from LASALLE College of the Arts, who received the Red Dot: Junior Prize, which is endowed with 10,000 Euros with his magazine "A-B Magazine Issue No. 1 - Right of Asylum".
