Wiggle Theory Kinesthetic Design for Balance and Movement

Back Download

The Wiggle is a 3D zip line connected to a bent I-beam to create a rhythmic series of hills and valleys en route to an aerial crescendo. Seven compressive members are held in space by 24 tensile lines. Tensegrity suspends this giant track, so installation is achieved by pulling at a single point, greatly reducing the cost of erecting the superstructure. Wiggles can be modified, affording new challenges to even frequent users. Mimicking kelp roots, large nets buried at shallow depths distribute the requisite anchoring force. Between these biomimetic anchors and a low drag coefficient (both above and below the waterline), the Wiggle aims to emerge unscathed even from hurricanes.
