Made from an innovative composite comprising mainly of Incinerator Bottom ASH (IBA), WASH closes the material cycle and reduces the planet’s natural resource depletion, thus directly contributing to environmental sustainability. The IBA composite in WASH is made from at least 70% of mechanically treated bottom ash and eco-resin. This reduces the products’ carbon footprint considerably. Physical and chemical tests were conducted to ensure the suitability and safety of its use in the kitchen. The composite developed is extremely interesting, especially when used in high-end kitchen products. It resembles ceramic-ware, but has an impact resistance similar to plastic. WASH’s main purpose is to showcase how a soap dispenser can be a décor object. The resting position of WASH is horizontal as opposed to the usual vertical orientation, tricking the mind over the real function of the object. The dispense holder acts as a ‘cocoon’ that elegantly embraces the sponge and cleaning cloth; the open sides allow ventilation which prevents bacteria proliferation and unpleasant odours. The dispenser has two compartments that can hold two different cleansing gels, offering more versatility and flexibility for the user. Red Dot Award: Design Concept | Concept | Materials & Surfaces
