Ten Bulls

The Ten Bulls is a centuries-old series of drawings accompanied by short poems which portray an oxherd’s search for a bull. It is an allegory for the spiritual journey undertaken by Zen Buddhists on their path to enlightenment. The film translates this motif into a virtual, video-game-like Zen world. The hero strides through the dark, gigantic halls towards the effigy of a bull. Each of the ten bulls from the series is represented in its own specially created set. Red light is used as an atmospheric element within the depicted spaces and also represents the enlightened intellect.
