Takashi Murakami

As part of a series of artist portraits, this illustration depicts the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Born in 1962, he creates international works of fine art. These vary in painting and sculpture, but also in what is conventionally considered commercial media. This consists of fashion, merchandise and animation. Murakami is known for blurring the line between high and low art. His work has been noted for its use of colour, the incorporation of motifs from Japanese traditional and popular culture, flat / glossy surfaces, and content that could be described simultaneously as cute, psychedelic and satirical.
