Taichung Overpass: Impression of Railway
The objective of this eco museum was to transform disused railway facilities into an urban recreational area. It was important to preserve the heritage of the 100-year-old railway culture, but at the same time incorporate aspects such as environmental responsibility, culture and education. Where there used to be railroad tracks there is now a green corridor with multiple different functions, landscapes and facilities that nonetheless provides glimpses of the original use. The paving of the paths is, for example, occasionally interrupted to reveal the old train tracks and the design of the street furniture references local history.
Statement by the Jury
This landscaping project outstandingly interweaves the heritage of historic railway culture with the demands of a modern recreational area.
