Sweet Breath

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease with a high prevalence amongst children. It is not easy to treat, but can be easily managed over the long run. Studies have shown that breathing training can reduce airway obstruction in patients and strengthen respiratory muscles, thus relieving asthma symptoms. Based on this data, Sweet Breath is a breathing trainer device designed for children with asthma. Through a gamified interactive experience, it aims to improve recovery while treatment of asthma is ongoing, while reducing both physical and psychological discomfort of the respiratory disease. Aesthetically, the breathing trainer resembles the shape of a lollipop when held in the hand. The transparent shell in the centre of the device is coated with a special material on the inner surface, which is colourless and transparent under normal conditions. The colours gradually change as the user breathes into the device. When a complete pattern is formed to reveal lollipop shades, it equates to one round of training. The breathing trainer employs the elastic force of the spring (when exhaling) and adjusts the size of the vent hole (when inhaling) to generate resistance during breathing, thereby exercising the respiratory muscles.
