The Smart Cane is a multisensory navigator that enables individuals with visual impairments to move around safely. An ultrasonic sensor is attached beneath the handle of the white cane to detect obstacles at chest height. The detection range can be individually adjusted to suit the situation. An acoustic or vibration alert is issued either via the smartphone or through the removable receiver of the sensor. The compact design and lightweight nature are further characteristics of this user-centric device.
