The Raya lounge chair was developed for use in collaborative office environments. Its fabric, knitted from yarn in three different colours, changes tone depending on the viewing angle. The name “Raya” – the Spanish word for stingray – alludes to the texture of the backrest, which is created using a 3D knitting technique. The jury was impressed by the creative design principle, which cleverly plays with optical effects. The sustainability claim, which minimises material waste through precision work, makes all components used easily removable for recycling and dispenses with the use of adhesives or toxins in the manufacturing process, was also convincing.
