Qi Lou

The Qilou Old Street in Haikou, China, is characterised by both traditional Eastern as well as modern Western architectural styles. The film “Qi Lou” takes this contrast and develops it further by drawing up a fictionalised future in the trendy cyberpunk style. It does this by superimposing futuristic-looking technology onto the historic original locations. Floating holograms and screens bathe the night-time streets in neon-coloured light. The illusion is seamless and both fascinating and shocking in equal measure – the intention is to create greater awareness of the district’s unique cultural heritage.
