Print 001XT

Print 001XT is a fully 3D-printed parametric-based shoe created with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), a process that sinters small particles of polymer powder (thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)) into a solid structure using a high- power laser. By pairing 3D printing with a parametric- based model, shoes can be designed to respond to various inputs. Combined with an accurate foot scan and foot pressure mapping, a bespoke shoe can be created. Print 001XT responds directly to user input based on foot shape, required ergonomic cushioning, and usage type (leisure to advanced sport). Based on a single flexible mesh and its offset counterpart, various volumetric connecting grids can be created to completely change the aesthetic and performance of a specific shoe. The designer no longer creates a one-off product, but an entire system capable of generating a varied set of options that can then be ranked and sorted based on performance. This not only provides a customised solution for the wearer, but also allows a single design to span across multiple typologies.
