Polestar 2
Electrifying purism
“Introducing a new brand in the already saturated automotive market is no mean feat. Polestar mastered this challenge with flying colours,” read the verdict of the jury when they awarded Polestar the distinction “Red Dot: Brand of the Year” in 2020. Meanwhile, the carmaker has introduced its second model, the Polestar 2. The appearance of the fastback sedan with fully electric powertrain showcases balanced proportions that exude an elegant and powerful appeal. The design is dominated by a consistent purism that defines both the exterior body and the car’s interior. This concentration on essentials manifests itself on the exterior in a clear surface design, clean lines and many well-thought-out details. Only the continuous light blade of 288 LEDs, which stretch the width of the car’s rear, deviates from this purism when it indicates the locking and unlocking of the doors in a short light sequence. The interior features only a few analogue controls that have been cleverly designed and arranged – such as the faceted infotainment dial and the hexagonal gear stick. Instead, the interior projects a future-oriented digital driving experience characterised by new technology in the form of an Android-based operating system featuring Google, the possibility of voice control and the vertical centre touch display. The use of novel vegan materials (as standard, no less), a harmonious colour concept and surfaces that are pleasant to the touch further enhance the impression of plain elegance.
Statement by the Jury
The design of the Polestar 2 has managed to lend an electric car a progressive yet at the same time highly familiar look. The exterior inspires with its harmonious proportions and impressive clarity. The latest technologies have been integrated in such a manner that they offer intuitive control. As a result, the Polestar 2 invites drivers to a remarkably new, all-round digital user experience.
