Mica was developed in order to simplify microscopy workflows. The device is so highly automated that it only requires a single physical button, which is used for opening the front flap. When closed, its shape is that of a simple compact cube with bevelled edges that give the design its stylistic distinctiveness. According to the jury, the result is an exceptionally clear and striking design language that not only gives it a high recognition value, but also enables exceptionally intuitive access to the system.
