Underground Trains
Metro M7 for Brussels
The new Metro M7 underground trains for Brussels were created after an analysis of the system to date, which looked at both traffic flow and space utilisation. The aim was to harmonise the individual needs of passengers with the high capacity and frequency requirements of metropolitan operations. The resulting trains are characterised by modularised interiors, an organic design language inspired by the city’s art nouveau heritage and flexible entrance areas that adapt situationally to different requirements during peak and off-peak hours. The jury acknowledged the successful design approach, together with a recognisable heritage-based statement.
