“Enduring, not ultimate form”: from “Industrieform” to Red Dot (1980 - 1997)
Memory of Vapor
This abandoned cooling tower in Tangshan becomes a repository of collective memories when transformed into an urban bathhouse, and integrated into the microclimate and urban landscape. An empty box is inserted to preserve the tower’s internal verticality, turning it into a public living room, while a new translucent skin and external elements revitalise the building’s image. The project exhibits the sustainable and organic revitalisation of an industrial site.
