Luminous/L

Luminous/L is a graphic art poster that serves as a smart element for everyday use. It was designed following the question: “What if a lamp that is printed on a paper glows?” As hinted at by its name, the poster has a phosphorescent effect. It absorbs light during the day and emits it at night. Available in five different concepts of a lampshade harmonised with graphics, Luminous/L functions both as a decoration element during the day, and as dramatic and emotional mood lighting at night. It is not a mere art poster but rather maintains its effect by illuminating a given space at night. The idea of developing a product for the home gallery thus resulted in the creation of a work that serves two functional purposes. In addition, typical forms of lamps as well as different patterns of lampshades have been adopted ironically and are further highlighted through a plain white or black background. Statement by the jury »This work is innovative since it merges traditional aspects of graphic design with the function of a product, namely the depicted lamps. The posters thus offer two modes of expression – the aesthetic pleasure and the physical reaction of glowing when it turns dark. Following a multidisciplinary design approach, this poster series is the outcome of an illuminating realisation in the truest sense of the word.«
