“Enduring, not ultimate form”: from “Industrieform” to Red Dot (1980 - 1997)
Light Kaleidoscope Art Installation
Light Kaleidoscope is a beacon that brings to life the fragments of memories associated with this street. Inspired by an old-fashioned flashlight, the building features a magnified vertical space adorned with six stainless steel mirrors, creating a magical reflection of light and shade. The design avoids the oppressive feeling of typical corridor patterns, evoking instead the warmth of childhood dreams filled with vibrant colours. The flashlight effect guides people in the dark and pieces together fragmented memories, stirring deep emotions.
The aim is to revitalise East Street — once bustling but now quiet — by bringing back happiness through the Light Kaleidoscope, a building symbolising the bygone days. Urban development and social progress are usually driven by logic and reason. However, recognising the fading emotional needs due to the rapid pace of city development, an emotional design offers an effective solution for reconnecting people with their past in the process of urban development.
